COVINGTON, Tenn., March 3 – (Special.) – Municipal elections today resulted in the victory of Hon. Sherrod Smith, primary nominee, over R. R. McGregor, by 87 votes. Charles B. McClelland, primary nominee, had no opposition for City Recorder and led the ticket with 273 votes. N. P. Garrett, also primary nominee, was elected Marshal without opposition, and Oscar Leech, for assistant Marshal, also had no opposition.
The contest over the City Board of Education was spirited, with all the members of the old board candidates. Three of them, G. D. Gillespie, J. L . McNeely and J. W. Simonton, were elected, while Messrs, Murphy and Sloan were defeated by Dr. L. A. Yarbrough and I. R. Calhoun. The Aldermen nominated by the primary were elected without opposition as follows: John Craig, J. H. Flippin, J. R. Fallin, E. H. McFadden, Thomas Addison and J. H. Bringle.
