Campground Cemetery

Location

Campground Cemetery is located on the left of Campground Road in Drummonds, Tennessee (near Munford). You will find the entrance across from the intersection of Pilgrim Rd and Campground Rd.

About

Campground is an old cemetery with the oldest headstone marking the burial place of Roy C Branch. Roy’s headstone documents his date of death as October 8, 1811. He was only two years of age. Eerily, there are numerous graves marked with headstones of children under the age of ten.

The next two oldest headstone are those of James M Marsh and Mary V Marsh. James was born on December 30, 1840, and died on February 4, 1853. His wife, Mary, died on July 14, 1855.

The burials that brought me to this cemetery are those of my uncle’s grandparents. Henry Clay Gross and Nancy Jane Vance Gross.

Finally, I have not been able to find a church associated with this cemetery.

Henry Clay Gross was born on August 17, 1845, in Tipton, Tennessee. His father was, John Gross, and his mother was Joyce Hunley Gross. He married Nancy Jane Green on December 31, 1878, in Tipton, Tennessee. They had five children in 16 years. They were Beulah (b. 1879), Donie (b. 1884), Henry Booker “Bud” (1888-1951), William Hurley (1892-1954), and Obie Ellis (1895-1963). Henry died on June 16, 1917, in Munford, Tennessee, at the age of 71.

Henry Booker “Bud” Gross was born on November 11, 1888, in Brighton, Tennessee, His father was Henry, and his mother was Nancy. He married Hettie M Lindsey on December 11, 1912, in Tipton, Tennessee. They had eight children in 21 years. He died on June 25, 1951, in Tipton, Tennessee, at the age of 62.
