Dope Fiend Caught Red-handed | E. A. Boger who has been employed at the C. M. & A. Co. for some time, was arrested by Nightwatchman Clarence Dumas Friday night. Boger was caught red-handed by Dr. Ed Wall on Friday night, having broken into the latter’s veterinary office on West Liberty street for the ostensible purpose of stealing some morphine which he supposed Dr. Wall had for use in his practice. He, however, did not succeed in securing any of the coveted dope.
Dr. Wall was entering his front door when he heard the rear door slam and at the same time saw Boger making his exit. He was tried before Esq. J. E. Walker, who bound him over to the next term of the circuit court under a bond of $500, which he was unable to give and was sent to jail.

“Dumb Beggar” Muffs Plea for Mercy in Talk
by Associated Press
Chicago, Ill., Jan. 18 – Edgar Boger, “deaf and dumb” beggar, was brought into court today for begging on the streets.
“If the poor man could only speak,” remarked the judge, “he could probably give a good reason for his begging and gain leniency.”
“Well, your honor,” responded Boger, “I’m trying to support a wife and two children in St. Louis.”
When telegrams revealed the St. Louis address he gave to be fictitious, the judge said: “Ten dollars and costs.”
