CONTESTS IN TIPTON | COVINGTON, Tenn., Aug 13 – (Spl) – The deadline for candidates to qualify for the Democratic primary set for September 3, arrived Friday with 15 candidates qualified. There will be contests for five of the seven offices to be filled.
Interest centers about the races for sheriff and county register. Neither Sheriff J. T. Scott nor Register A. M. Walker are three candidates for sheriff and four for register.
The candidates who qualified for the primary are: County judge, Charles B. McClelland, incumbent, and M. L. Southall; county court clerk, J. B. Overall, incumbent; circuit court clerk, Lucian Cockrill, incumbent; trustee, R. P. Nevil, incumbent, and J. A. Peeler; sheriff, George B. Ellis, Jr., J. T. Wood and William Vaughan; register, C. W. Beasley, Solon Beaver, DeLong McLister and Carl A. Roby; superintendent, Eugene Younger incumbent, and Gavin McClanahan.
