Bettie Lockett Alston was born on November 15, 1868, in Macon, Illinois. She is the daughter of Katie and Dan Lockett.
Bettie married Robert Brown Alston on November 24, 1912, in Tipton County, Tennessee. During their marriage, they had four identified children. They are Ludia Mae (1902-1941), Ruth (1902-1993), Willie Mae Alston Yarbrough (1902-1999) and Sylvester Alston (1906-1929).
Bettie died on December 8, 1938, in Burlison, Tipton County, Tennessee, at the age of 70, from an intestinal obstruction. She was buried in Gilt Edge at the Alston Cemetery.
