Alston, Rev. Ruffin F. Sr

Alston, Rev. Ruffin F. Sr

Posted on June 5, 2019June 9, 2019 by ML Williams

Rev. Ruffin F Alston was born in 1834 in North Carolina. His father, Isham, was 36 years old when he was born. Isham, Ruffin’s father, was born in 1798 in Warren, North Carolina. His mother, Ellen, was 24 years old when he was born. Ellen lived a very long life. She passed away at the age of 79 in the year 1889. I do have a question as to whether or not Isham and Ellen are his biological parents. They may have just been the oldest two slaves on the plantation.

Ruffin married Mary Alston in 1860. During their marriage they had twelve children. They were Luke, John, Joseph, Missouria, Gracy, Major Hinton, Louisa, Media, Ruffin Jr., Charlotte, and Whit.

Alston died on July 1, 1909, in Gilt Edge, Tipton County, Tennessee. He lived to the age of 75. He is buried at Alston Cemetery in Gilt Edge, Tennessee.
